Is Fernhill Drive Closed?

Wright Hassall Regency 10K In Leamington Spa 2024

This is typically the last thing we ask the Race Director and those in situ before we start the Wright Hassall Regency 10K every year.

Fernhill Drive is the first traffic road the 2,000+ runners run up towards the golf course on their quest to complete the Midlands No.: 1 10K and Gold Awarded Race Check event.

The Regency 10K was the brainchild of Russell Hall, a local veterinary and former Leamington Round Tabler. Known as ‘Rusty The Vet’ to many. The event started in 2005 and has continued every year since. It’s a leafy run around the old Newbold Comyn Golf Course (now a bike track in parts), parks and roads of Leamington Spa – bordered by stunning Regency architecture and lined by hordes of cheering spectators and residents of the town.

Celebrating Our 20th Year

This year we celebrated 20 Years of this amazing community event. We have much to be grateful for. Wright Hassall – a well-respected local law firm have been main sponsor since its inception. Spa Striders – one of our local running clubs have provided the vast majority of the 250 course marshals required, with local charities and businesses making up the rest.

Moo Design provide their branding skills to market the event and produce the design and artwork for the event collateral: course signage, promotional products, runner’s T-shirt, as well as the much-loved A5 Booklet. This is sent to each runner prior to the event with their race number and timing chip. It contains an intro from the current Leamington Round Table Chairman, course map, runners’ notes, sponsor adverts, commentary from the previous year’s event and a listing of which charities and deserving causes the proceeds are going to in our local community.

It’s All About ‘The Team’

Leamington Round Table organise the event (along with hundreds of other volunteers) and I’m especially proud to have been part of ‘The Team’, along with Andrew Savage (41 Club Secretary), to have helped plan and deliver the event every year since 2005.

“It was excellent to see runners and spectators alike celebrating the event’s 20th anniversary. “There was a brilliant atmosphere on the day which demonstrated just how important the event is to the whole community. “I would like to thank sponsor Wright Hassall as well as the volunteers and supporters who make this event possible year after year. We hope it continues to be just as successful in the years to come.”

Half A Million Raised!

What a headline… Since 2005 Leamington Round Table, have organised the event and encouraged over 32,500 participants to run the 10K around Leamington Spa. By doing so we have raised a staggering £500,000.00 for our local community!

Phil Wilding, Managing Partner at Wright Hassall, post-race said: “We are extremely proud to sponsor such a much-loved local event which makes a significant difference to good causes right across the area.

“This year’s event was a fantastic occasion which celebrated the run’s 20-year history, and I would like to congratulate all of those who took part.”

So Who Were The Race Winners?

This year’s race was won by Matt Scarsbrook, of Birchfield Harriers, who triumphed in first place with a time of 31 minutes and 53 seconds. A little way off the course record of 31 minutes set by the four-time winner, Ryan Kenny in 2009. The first woman across the line was Rachel Gifford, of Leamington Cycling and Athletics Club, who clinched the top spot with a time of 36 minutes and 33 seconds. Net Visibility won the Corporate Team title. Leamington C&AC won the both the Male and Female Team competitions. Alex Robinson, Partner from Wright Hassall kindly gave out the prizes.

Congratulations & Thank You

With our 20th year under our belts and all our participants having put their best foot forward to raise money for a variety of local good causes – thank you! Congratulations to everyone who has ever run the race and sincere thanks to our sponsors, supporters and the thousands of volunteers who have given up their time to make the event happen and be the success it continues to be.
